Who We Are
In 2005, Sonrisas was founded by a collective of community members from the cooperative village of El Largartillo, Nicaragua, to grow upon their ancestral model of solidarity not charity that they had build throughout the years during the revolution.
Sonrisas organizes across imposed borders, bringing together lived experiences of those from strategically exploited countries. Through uplifting those whose needs are most inaccessible, we weave community that is rooted in care.
Sonrisas, like mycelium, nurtures our ecosystems of interconnectedness.
With great honor, we commit to:
Work that is interconnected and intersectional
Center the wisdom of global south lived experiences
Support food sovereignty and ecological liberation
Create networks of care for our immigrant community
Uplift ancestral knowledge sharing
Share valuable ways of decolonizing wealth structures and restructuring its equitable redistribution
Engage in solidarity that follows decision-making by those affected by strategic oppression
